Channel 5 (formerly known as Televisión Nacional Uruguay) is the main public television network in Uruguay whose central studios are located in Montevideo. It has national coverage and its programming is aimed at all audiences, especially focused on information, entertainment and culture, as well as a children’s and youth segment.
Channel 8 is an open and public television channel from the city of Melo, Uruguay. It is the second channel of National Television and the only public channel in the interior of the country. During the 1970s and 1980s, it had programming with extensive coverage in rural areas throughout the north of Uruguay. It also covered different local, regional and even national live events. It also broadcast informative, cultural and children’s programs.
